IEEE Ecuador STEM Marathon

The Marathon STEM aims to train 300 children and young people from the community of Latacunga, Ecuador, in areas of science and technology, through 15 simultaneous workshops that will take place at the Technical University of Cotopaxi and will be taught by 60 volunteers from IEEE among students and young professionals.
The event will take place on September 16, 2022, as part of one of the activities of the National Meeting of Student Branches and the National Meeting of Young Professionals of IEEE Ecuador.
The event will kick off with an introduction to RNR and RNYP attendees about the benefits of IEEE Young Professionals and the opportunities for pre-college activities that IEEE offers. To guarantee the quality of training for children and youth, a training workshop will be given to student volunteers and young professionals who will participate as trainers. In this workshop, the theoretical contents (sent days before) and the practices to be carried out in the workshop with the children will be reviewed.
The children summoned belong to public schools in the city of Latacunga, Ecuador. The participation of equal numbers of boys and girls will be sought, achieving gender equity.
The STEM Marathon will be held for 3 hours and 300 children and young people will be trained at the same time. The children will be organized in 15 classrooms with 20 participants each, where 4 volunteers per classroom will teach the planned theoretical and practical content. The resources to be used are the 150 SNAP circuits kits that IEEE Ecuador has, which will be distributed in groups of 2 children to carry out the practices. At the end of the STEM Marathon there will be a closing ceremony, delivery of certificates and group photo.
Finally, young professionals and students are asked to participate in a forum in which they present their experiences during the activity.
